Tabel Jura

As Tafeljura is called in Switzerland, those parts of the Swiss Jura, which were not folded, in contrast to the folded parts ( Faltenjura ). He is not to be confused with the Jura plateau, which forms the Jura Mountains a part of the Folded Jura.

The northeastern Tafeljura runs approximately from Pfeffingen mainly by the cantons of Basel -Landschaft and Aargau over areas in Sissach, Frick, Brugg and Würenlingen the High Rhine east of Bad Zurzach. North of it to set the unfolded Jurassic continued in the Jura trains of Unterklettgau Jura, Randen, Baar Jura and Swabian and Franconian Alb.

The northwestern Tabular Jura lies in the Ajoie (Canton Jura) and is continued in the areas of the unfolded of the French Jura escarpment country.

These two Tafeljura areas are separated by areas of the Jura folds. This extends between Pfeffingen and Miécourt through Switzerland and the Sundgau up directly to the Upper Rhine Graben.

The Jura mountains are recognized by the predominantly limestone, Hauptrogenstein stone and Malmkalken, wide tabular plateaus, steep-walled valleys in which are sunk in the Basel area and Aargau part. The rock layers were broken here in the wake of the lowering of the Upper Rhine Graben from the early Tertiary in plaice. These fractures run mostly in NE - ENE- up direction.

The fracture Scholl landscape was leveled with the Miocene transgression. The marine Muschelagglomerat the Tennikerfluh lies on this Transgressionsfläche and is of the Juranagelfluh ( continental erosion products of the Black Forest cover ) and Miocene marls superimposed.

The present relief has arisen in the Quaternary by activity of glaciers and rivers, which have cut into the bedrock. In calcareous formations in the Quaternary gravels of Talfüllungen circulates usable and occupied for drinking water supply groundwater.
