Table Tennis World Cup

The World Cup is a table tennis tournament, which is organized by the Table Tennis ITTF. With the organization of the tournament the ITTF entrusted to one member country. There are individual competitions for men and women - the World Cup - as well as team events for men and women - the World Team Championship - conducted.

Individual Competitions - World Cup

The individual competitions for men are carried out annually since 1980 and for women since 1996. The conditions are described in the ITTF Handbook in Chapter 4.03.

Participation is open to

  • The previous winner of the World Cup Tournament
  • The reigning world champion in the individual
  • The current best players from each of the six continents (Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, North America, Oceania )
  • A representative of the host country
  • The first eight players of the ITTF World Ranking

These awards ITTF two wildcards.

Leaving the wildcard owner disregarded, then allowed to compete per nation more than two players. To achieve this Special rules are provided: if

  • The winner of the World Cup Tournament is the reigning world champion at the same time or
  • The host country comes to more than two participants, because the defending champion of the World Cup or the reigning world champions are from there and even more players from the first eight in the world rankings added

Then the next possible players will be invited according to world rankings.

Team Competition - World Team Cup

The World Team Championship is conducted every two years since 2007, in years with an odd number years. Previously, he was held in 1990, 1991.1994 and 1995. The game system is in each case determined by the Executive Committee.

The conditions for the team competition are described in the ITTF handbook in chapter 4:04.

Eligible are twelve teams:

  • The first seven of the previous World Cup
  • The host country
  • Four other teams from the continents

Each team consists of three players. A team competition will be conducted according to the Olympic system. A single match will be played in 5 winning records.
