Tablinum

As tablinum (from Latin tabula, "table " ) was a space in the ancient Roman house denotes the adjoined directly to the atrium, on the side opposite the entrance to the rules page. The tablinum opened often with its entire front to the atrium and could be shielded by curtains or wooden doors if necessary. Often, the back wall of the tablinum was provided openly or at least with large windows, so that an impressive line of sight from the entrance of the house, through the atrium and the tablinum came up in the garden or in the peristyle.

The room was originally the head of the family, the " Pater familias " subject, who is also in his capacity as patron received his clients here. Later, it was commonly used as a richly furnished with pictures lounge. In noble families here were the busts of ancestors.
