Taborstraße (Vienna U-Bahn)

The underground station Tabor Street subway line U2 is in the 2nd district of Vienna, Leopoldstadt. It is named after the oldest street in the Leopoldstadt, officially since 1903 named Tabor Road (formerly Kremserstraße, documented since 1406 ) which runs on the eastern edge of the Carmelite district between the Danube Canal and North Railway Street and a major thoroughfare and commercial axis within the district.

Station

U2 station Tabor Road located approximately in the center of this axis. It extends under the intersection of Tabor Street / Upper Augartenstraße to Novaragasse 8 It has two side platforms in two separate tubes and was built between 2003 and 2008. The station tubes were prepared in a closed construction, the station in an open design (cover design). A geothermal system was installed in the station building.

The station was handed over on 10 May 2008 with the opening of the second portion of the U2 between Scots ring and stadium of their determination. Staircases lead to the Tabor Street / Upper Augartenstraße and to Novaragasse. The object Novaragasse 8 is the property of the Wiener Linien and was built by them as residential building with integrated subway entrance.

Near the station are the Augarten Park and numerous cultural institutions, such as the main building of the Vienna Boys Choir, the courage, the Austrian Film Archive, the Augarten Porcelain Manufactory, the Gustinus - Ambrosi - Museum and operated by the Jewish Community Vienna Zwi Peres Chajes school.

The tram line 21, the wrong earlier on the Tabor Road, was closed as part of the extension of the U2 to the stadium today operates here the line 2 and the bus route 5B. During construction of the station passing a portion of the sidewalk and a portion of the Upper Augartenstraße was renewed.

Configuration

The smoke ventilation system at the eastern edge of the house Novaragasse 8 2008 was prettified by the artist Ingeborg Strobl with plant motifs. The image consists of 56 enamel plates with a total height of 26 meters and a total width of 4.5 meters. The floral motifs are reminiscent of wood engravings from the 19th century. They remind one hand to the former name of Novaragasse ( the 1797-1812 and 1812-1862 Gartengasse Gärtnergasse called), on the other hand, to the scientific Austrian Novara Expedition ( 1857-1859 ).
