Tadeusz Hołuj

Tadeusz Hołuj ( born November 23, 1916 in Krakow, † 23 October 1985 in Kraków ) was a Polish writer and Auschwitz survivor.

Life

Hołuj graduated from high school in Jasło and studied law and philology at the Jagiellonian University. Hołuj was co-editor of the literary magazine " Naszego Wyrazu ".

Hołuj fought in the fall of 1939, after the invasion of Poland by the Wehrmacht on the part of the Polish Army against the German invaders. After the German occupation of Poland Hołuj was discharged from the Polish army. During a raid, he was arrested in Warsaw and spent to forced labor in Bavaria. From there he was able to escape, return to Krakow and join a resistance group. In July 1942 Hołuj was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to the main camp of Auschwitz in early September 1942. Hołuj received the prisoner number 62 937 and was clerk and nurse in the infirmary. Hołuj was next to Ernst Burger, Hermann Langbein and Jozef Cyrankiewicz leading member of Kampfgruppe Auschwitz. End of October 1944 Hołuj was transferred to a satellite camp of Flossenbiirg to Leitmeritz and there liberated in April 1945.

After the war Hołuj worked as a writer in Krakow and was active in the Polish Workers 'Party and the Polish United Workers' Party. Hołuj in the mid- 1960s, General Secretary of the International Auschwitz Committee and was a witness in the first Frankfurt Auschwitz trial.

Hołuj was also cast in the resultant after his novel Auschwitz movie The end of our world and worked as a screenwriter.
