Tadeusz Rejtan

Tadeusz Reytan ( born August 20, 1742 in Hruszówka; † August 8, 1780 ibid ) was a member of the Polish Sejm, who has become famous for his opposition to the First Partition of Poland.

Reytan was a member of the city Nowogródek and turned on April 19, 1773 the first meeting of the Sejm, together with Samuel Korsak and Stanisław Bohuszewicz against the motion of the Sejmmarschalls Adam Poniński on constitution of a " Confederate Sejm ", which should agree with the division. Reytan doubted the legitimacy Ponińskis and refused to leave the meeting room. Because of this action, he was sentenced by a court to imprisonment and the confiscation of his property. But he remained in the meeting room and turns on 21 April there Deputies opposite who wanted to leave the room - this scene is recorded on a famous painting by Jan Matejko. On 22 April, he finally left for guarantees by foreign ambassadors to the Sejm. He stayed until 1776 in Warsaw and then returned to his estate, where he died unmarried at the age of 38 years.

Reytan was later generations as a symbol of the independence of Poland. According to him, many of the streets, but also schools are named in Poland.
