Tag-Editor

A tag editor (or tagger ) is a software, the editing of metadata ( tags) allowed primarily in multimedia file formats, instead of changing the actual content of the file. These are mainly taggers for the usual popular audio formats tagging systems such as ID3, APE and Vorbis comments, but can also be taggers for JPEG or TIFF metadata. In the computer-assisted translation tag editors are also often used as part of Trados. The translatable text is divided into a large number of tags and stored each day separately in the translation memory.

A common application of a tag editor is to correct the metadata of multimedia files and sort the files according to this order in the file system. Advanced Tagger offer for it batch processing, so not every file must be edited individually. Many programs, such as media players, audio applications and similar also support editing (audio ) tags. Usually, only pure tag editor programs are designated by the term, however.

With the emergence of Internet communities like last.fm increases the importance of correct information in multimedia files. In order to make the users providing their files with information or correction easier, there are now a wide range of taggers that relate this information online, for example from internet databases like MusicBrainz.
