The Tahitian also Reo Reo Ma'ohi or Tahiti is a Polynesian language. The majority of the total of about 150,000 speakers lives in the Society Islands, especially in Tahiti, in French Polynesia. This number also includes non- Tahitians. Minorities also live in New Caledonia and some other countries of the Pacific region. Lexical similarities exist primarily for Hawaiian and Rarotonga.
The distribution of the Tahitian in the electronic and print media is very limited. However, the language plays an important role as a trade language.
