Tahoma (typeface)

The Tahoma is a linear sans font that was designed in 1995 by Matthew Carter for Microsoft. It is similar to Carter's also for display on the screen developed Verdana, but has a lower pitch. In contrast to Verdana she does not have italic typefaces. Therefore, the scope of Unicode support has been expanded: while the Verdana contains only Latin, Greek and Cyrillic characters, Tahoma also supports Arabic, Hebrew and Thai.

Tahoma was replaced in Windows Vista by the font Segoe UI. According to Microsoft, you can read the written in Segoe UI texts up to five percent faster.

Tahoma has - like Verdana - a design error: The quotes used in German and many other European languages above - Unicode U 201 C ( " ) - is inclined to the left instead of right. This disrupts the flow of reading and leads to a stylistically ugly typeface.
