Taichung Power Plant

The power plant is Taichung is a coal-fired power plant, which is located in the city of Taichung on the west coast in the middle of Taiwan.

It was completed in 1998 with a capacity of 2,200 MW. In 2006 it was expanded to 1,100 MW. With a capacity of 5,500 MW, it is the strongest coal-fired power plant in the world and also with the highest carbon dioxide emissions. It annually produces 39.7 million tonnes of CO2. This corresponds approximately to the CO2 emissions in Switzerland.

Operator is the State Taiwan Power Company ( Taipower ), which has four more coal-fired power plants next to the power plant Taichung.
