Taizhou (Jiangsu)

Taizhou (Chinese泰州 市, pinyin Taizhou shì ) is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu province of the People's Republic of China. The administrative area of Taizhou covers an area of 5793 km ² and is of 5.03 million people ( end of 2004) inhabited.
At county level, Taizhou is made up of two districts and four county boroughs. These are:
- Municipality Hailing (海陵区), 210 km ², 430,000 inhabitants;
- Municipality Gaogang (高 港区), 224 km ², 190,000 inhabitants;
- Jingjiang City (靖江 市), 665 km ², 660,000 inhabitants;
- Taixing City (泰兴 市), 1256 km ², 1.28 million inhabitants;
- City Jiangyan (姜堰 市), 1046 km ², 900,000 inhabitants;
- Xinghua City (兴化 市), 2393 km ², 1.55 million inhabitants.
Twin cities of Taizhou are the U.S. Newport News, the South Korean county Eumseong -gun and Santos ( Brazil). It is the birthplace of the Chinese Navy.
