Taizhou (Zhejiang)

Taizhou (Chinese台州, Taizhou Pinyin ) is a newly developed, prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province of the People's Republic of China. Taizhou is located in the center of the predominantly Wu -speaking coastal province of Zhejiang and has a subtropical, humid mild marine climate. The land area of ​​the city is 9413 km ², and the water area 80,000 km ². Taizhou has 5.57 million inhabitants ( 2004).

Administrative Divisions

At county level, Taizhou sets of three districts, two urban districts and four counties together. These are:

  • Municipality Jiaojiang (椒江 区), 276 km ², 480,000 inhabitants;
  • City Huangyan District (黄岩 区), 988 km ², 570,000 inhabitants;
  • City Luqiao District (路桥区), 274 km ², 420,000 inhabitants;
  • Linhai City (临海 市), 2171 km ², 1.11 million inhabitants;
  • Wenling City (温岭 市) 836 km ², 1.15 million inhabitants;
  • Sanmen county (三门 县), 1072 km ², 410,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Haiyou (海 游 镇);
  • Tiantai county (天台 县), 1426 km ², 560,000 inhabitants;
  • Xianju county (仙居 县), 1992 km ², 470,000 inhabitants;
  • Yuhuan county (玉环 县), 378 km ², 400,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Zhugang (珠 港镇).

Infrastructure

Taizhou is conveniently located and has a good infrastructure. Situated south of the economic and technical development zone, Shanghai, between Wenzhou and Ningbo, Taizhou is the transportation hub of Zhejiang province.

Taizhou has its own airport ( Huangyan ) and is located approximately midway between the airports of Ningbo ( 150 km) and Wenzhou. The Ling Jiang, the third largest river in the Zhejiang province, and Jiang Yongning flow through the city; of inland waterway transport is well developed.

In October 2009 the railway line from Hangzhou -Ningbo through Taizhou to Wenzhou was opened to the south. Taizhou has three railway stations in Sanmen, Wenling and in Huangyan ( Taizhou Central ). The track is built as a high-speed road, but not yet released on all sections as such. At present, the drive from Huangyan to Hangzhou takes 2.5 hours. After completion, this period will be shortened considerably. For the future, a branch direction Jinhua is planned.

The coastline of the city offers a number of excellent harbors. The Haimen ( Jiaojiang ) port is to the ports of Ningbo and Wenzhou is the third largest of Zhejiang Province. Its handling capacity is 200 million tons per year.

At Sanmen a nuclear power plant is under construction.

Economy

Thanks to the favorable climate, Taizhou has become one of the most famous locations for fruit growing in China. Mandarins, Myrica rubra, pipa fruit, strawberries, tea and vegetables are important products of Taizhou. The locally produced seedless mandarins and the tea were awarded several times by the state. The Yuhuan pomelo is known throughout China. In addition, Taizhou has the country's largest cauliflower production.

Since the implementation of the reform and opening policy in China Taizhou has made great progress in the economic and social development. In particular, the industry is characterized by rapid growth. A number of brands are known nationwide as Qianjiang (motor industry), Geely ( automotive industry), Feiyue ( sewing machine construction industry), xingxing ( freezing mechanical engineering) and SUPOR (kitchen appliances).

The banking market in Taizhou is specially designed and specializing in light industry. Unlike most Chinese cities, most of which have only a regional commercial bank, Taizhou has a total of three local commercial banks ( City Commercial Bank ), which have their head offices there. Especially the Taizhou City Commercial Bank stands out because of advanced methods and highly efficient organization from the typical Chinese banking spectrum. One reason might be the fully private ownership structure.

Along the Jiaojiang ( Jiao River ), numerous shipyards have settled. Especially in the boom years of shipbuilding by 2008, the number of shipyards has increased. As of 2008, many shipbuilding companies are in financial difficulties. Some of the shipyards build ships for Western shipowners under strict quality supervision. However, most shipyards build substandard ships.

In Taizhou also has the car manufacturer Jonway headquartered.

Attractions

Two-thirds of the land area of Taizhou is crisscrossed by many rivers mountains, and, together with the levels of a charming landscape. The Tiantai Mountain is the origin of the Tiantai school of Buddhism and the Southern school of Taoism. Taizhou is known as the birthplace of the co-operatives in China. Other attractions in the region remain among the Guoqing Temple, the stone bar waterfall and the art glass exhibition hall. The stone dam Village is the place on the Chinese mainland, the first sunlight of the 21st century illuminated.
