Takata KK (Japaneseタカタ 株式会社, Kabushiki kaisha Takata, Eng. Takata Corporation) is a multinational company that manufactures automotive safety systems for vehicles. In Europe, the Takata Corporation has been the acquisition of Petri AG in Aschaffenburg in 2000 under the name of Takata -Petri, represented since 2008 TAKATA AG.

History

The foundation of the company goes back to the 1933 back when in Shiga (Japan) a factory under the name Takata Kojyo was founded for the production of pull cords for parachutes. In the 1950s the company began to develop increasingly seat belts, which in the 1960s reached their production maturity and henceforth could be produced in larger quantities. To ensure the security of the straps, Takata built in 1963 the world's first plant to carry out crash tests in Japan. The then -independent Petri AG Aschaffenburg built in 1981 in collaboration with Mercedes- Benz introduced the first airbag which meant a further decisive step towards modern occupant protection systems. In 2000, Takata Petri AG had taken over, so that the company then appeared in Europe under the name Takata -Petri. Early 2012 was renamed the European part of the company in Takata AG within the framework of globalization.

At the present time, the company has 55 manufacturing facilities and 15 R & D centers worldwide. About 12,000 of the approximately 37,000 employees are employed in Europe alone.
