Takeda Pharmaceutical Company

The Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Japanese武田 薬 品 工业 株式会社, Takeda Yakuhin Kōgyō Kabushiki - gaisha ) is the largest pharmaceutical company in Japan. Takeda has offices in Europe and the United States. The German subsidiary Takeda Pharma GmbH has its headquarters in Berlin and was founded in 1981. The Austrian branch of Takeda Pharma Ges.mbH Headquartered in Vienna, the Swiss subsidiary Takeda Pharma AG is headquartered in Opfikon. At the same time the corporate headquarters in Opfikon is the headquarters for all sales activities outside of Japan. The U.S. subsidiary Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc., headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois. The seat of global research and development is in Lincolnshire, USA. One of the main products is Actos ® ( pioglitazone ), a drug that is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2.

The Takeda Pharma GmbH employs over 560 employees and generated a turnover of EUR 235.5 million in 2004.

Company History

The 32 -year-old Chobei Takeda I founded in 1781 Dosho -machi (now Dosho -machi, Chuo -ku, Osaka ) is a business for the sale of traditional Japanese and Chinese medicines. 1895 own factory was built and started the production of pharmaceutical products. Takeda launched the first direct imports from Britain, the U.S., Germany and Spain.

1981 was received with the establishment of Takeda Pharma GmbH, the first joint venture in the German pharmaceutical market with Grünenthal GmbH. In 1985, Takeda in the United States TAP Pharmaceuticals Inc. ( now TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc.) as a 50:50 joint venture with Abbott Laboratories. TAP starts with the distribution of an agent against prostate cancer.

On 19 May 2011, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company announced that the Swiss pharmaceutical company Nycomed to take over for 9.6 billion euros. Upon completion of the transaction process Nycomed is a 100 percent subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.
