Taketomi -jima (Japanese竹 富 岛, literally bamboo rich island ) is a 5.42 km ² small, flat island in the Yaeyama group in the same community Taketomi, 4 km south-west of Ishigaki- jima.

Taketomi -jima is characterized by its large, shallow and very clean sandy beaches. A special feature is the so-called "Star Sand" (星砂, Hoshizuna ) with sand grains in star shape, which was created by remains of small marine animals. Located on the island very well preserved village in the traditional design of the Ryukyu Islands, with its typical stone walls attracts many tourists, mainly for day trips. Another economic mainstay is the cultivation of sugar cane.

To Taketomi -jima be found around coral reefs. However, divers have to watch out for the strong currents between the inner islands of the Yaeyama group.

Accessible to the island is by ferry to Ishigaki- jima.
