Takla Lake

The Takla Lake is the fifth largest natural lake in the Canadian province of British Columbia. He is a deep fjord -like lake. In the east the Swannell Ranges lie, the Driftwood River flowing from the north to the lake, the Middle River forms the outflow to the south. The lake forms the end of the Stuart - Takla sockeye salmon migration .. He is known for his large rainbow trout, American arctic char and Dolly Varden trout ( Salvelinus Dolly Varden Dolly Varden ).

The lake comprises a Y -shaped configuration. On the pointy shaped peninsula of Mount Blanchet Provincial Park. There is also a herd of woodland caribou and grizzly bears in the winter. The Takla Lake Marine Provincial Park extends over part of the lake. An Ecological Reserve was established on the peninsula to protect a very northern stock of Douglas.

The Takla Lake is also the birthplace of both national airlines of Canada. Russ Baker and Grant McConachie started their career with bush plane routes from Takla Lake. The lake is a popular starting point of canoe tours that run from the upper lakes end up to Fort St. James.

The lake belongs to the group of " Nechako Lakes ".
