Takoradi Power Plant is a thermal power plant in the Republic of Ghana. The system consists of three thermal power stations and is close to the deep water port about 17 kilometers east of the Twin Cities Sekondi -Takoradi on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea.

History

In late 1990, land in the municipality Aboadze was acquired and developed by the Government of Ghana. It emerged in addition to the actual operation of a tank storage areas and approximately 4.5 miles of underwater pipeline to the specially constructed ocean-going ship launch on the coast. The delivered oil can be stored in four storage tanks with a capacity of 29,500 cubic meters per between. The power plant site was also connected to the West African Gas Pipeline ( WAGP ). Thus, the power plants can alternatively be operated with natural gas.

Power Station T1

The first power plant, operator Volta River Authority (VRA ) was officially inaugurated on October 15, 2000 by the State President Jerry Rawlings. There is a gas - and -steam combined cycle power plant with an installed capacity of 330 megawatts combined by two 110 MW combustion gas turbines and a 110 MW steam turbine.

Power Station T2

The second plant has a capacity of 220 MW and can be expanded to 330 MW when needed. Operator is the Takoradi International Company ( TICO ).

Power Station T3

The third combined-cycle power plant with a capacity of 132 MW is under construction since 2011. It is operated with four gas turbine and a steam turbine. The order has a volume of approximately 187 million U.S. dollars was the Canadian Commercial Corporación, an international contracting agency is responsible as the general contractor of the companies involved in the construction. T3 is funded by the Canadian government. Volta River Authority is the operator. Completion is scheduled for late 2013.
