Takua Pa District

Amphoe Takua Pa ( Thai: อำเภอ ตะกั่วป่า ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Phang Nga. The Phang Nga province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

The district is situated on the coast of the Andaman Sea. In the north of Takua Pa National Park is Si Phang -nga. The southern part of the district is occupied by the National Park Khao Lak - Lam Ru, in which the well-known resort Khao Lak is located.

Adjacent counties and regions are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Khura Buri Phang Nga in the north, Amphoe Phanom province of Surat Thani Amphoe Kapong and Phang Nga province in the east, as well as Amphoe Thai Mueang Phang Nga in the south.

History

The area was already in the first millennium a center of trade between China and the Middle East, show the excavations at Ko Kho Khao.

The town of Takua Pa was originally Takola ( Thai: ตะโก ลา ) and was one of the historic city-states ( Mueang ), whose roots lie in the 13th century in the kingdom of Srivijaya. Later it was renamed in Takua Pa, because rich near lead deposits were found. Takua is Thai word for lead, although actually the tin deposits were historically important.

The city has long been managed by the Kingdom of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Only in 1892 it was converted into a province within the Monthon Phuket. The province was incorporated on April 1, 1931 in the province Pangnga, while the district Talad Yai was ( Thai: ตลาด ใหญ่ - " Great Market " ) renamed to Takua Pa.

Management

The district Takua Pa is divided into eight subdistricts ( tambon), which continued in 51 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

Takua Pa itself has a city - state ( thesaban Mueang ) and consists of the whole tambon Takua Pa.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

Others

The resort of Khao Lak, as well as the coast facing subdistricts ( tambon) of the district Takua Pa, namely Khuekkhak, Bang Muang and Koh Kho Khao were devastated by the tsunami of the tsunami on 26 December 2004 in the Indian Ocean. While Khao Lak, attracted media attention due to the fact that there were many tourists among the dead, the fishing village of Ban Nam Khem was in the subdistrict Bang Muang the place with the most native casualties. Today there is a "Tsunami Victim Cemetery ".
