Takuma Kawai

Takuma Kawai (Japanese河 合 卓 真, Takuma Kawai, born August 10, 1988 in Eniwa, Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese hockey player, who is since 2009 in the Tohoku Free Blades Ice Hockey League in Asia under contract.

Career

Takuma Kawai began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL, where he for the Voltigeurs de Drummondville and Olympiques de Gatineau has been active ever a game time 2006-2008. With Gatineau, he won in the 2007/ 08 season, the Coupe du Président, the championship of the QMJHL. For the 2009/10 season the winger as well as his brother Ryūichi signed a contract with the newly formed Tohoku Free Blades from the Asia League Ice Hockey, for which he scored two goals in 18 games and had seven assists. He also received 24 penalty minutes. In the 2010/11 season, which ended prematurely due to the Tōhoku earthquake, he won with his team as an assistant captain for the first time the champion of the Asia League Ice Hockey. Two years later he was with his team win the title again.

Internationally

For Japan, Kawai participated exclusively at the U18 Junior World Championship Division I in 2006 at junior level. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships Division I 2010, 2012 and 2013 and the Asian Winter Games 2011. At the Asian Games, he won with his team the silver medal.
