Takwa

Takwa is a ruined city on the island of Manda (Lamu District ) in Kenya. Takwa was a Swahili trading town from the 15-16. Century. Takwa located south east of Manda Iceland, at the narrowest point of the island. The settlement was abandoned in the 17th century, probably as a result of the increasing salinization of drinking water and repeatedly held fights between the residents Takwas and the inhabitants of the neighboring island of Pate. In 1982, the ruins were declared a National Monument.

At the archaeological site includes the remains of a large Friday Mosque with a large pillar at the Qiblawand. It is assumed that the column marked the grave of a Scheiches or sayyids.
