Talaimannar

Talaimannar is a place on the north coast of Mannar Island in Sri Lanka's Mannar district.

There are also built into the sea from a pier an occasional ferry service across the Palk Strait Rameswaram on Pamban Island Indian, provided the political conditions allow.

Previously Talaimannar was a port town with a ferry to Dhanushkodi on the Indian island of Pamban. There was a train to Colombo; of Dhanushkodi from there a train to the Indian mainland. By a cyclone in December 1964 Dhanushkodi was completely destroyed with its port facilities and the railway line, as well as the north coast of Mannar were severely damaged and destroyed the port facilities of Talaimannar. Since the transport links were not restored or could be, even the train to Talaimannar was abandoned.
