The sky dogs of Boragora ( Original title: Tales of the Gold Monkey) is an American action, espionage and adventure series. It was produced by Universal Television for the U.S. channel ABC and includes a season with 22 episodes.

Action

Jake Cutter is a former fighter pilot, of a small airline on the fictional island Boragora, a part of the Marivella archipelago in the South Pacific, operates in 1938. He carries on his worn leather jacket, the Flying Tigers insignia, a relic from his past as a mercenary.

His partners are his best friend Corky and the one-eyed Jack Russell Terrier Jack, whose jeweled eye Jake has lost a game and therefore has to wear an eye patch. With his aircraft Grumman Goose he transported contraband from island to island or rescues kidnapped travelers. Here, German soldiers, Japanese spies or South Sea Pirates him come so many times in the way.

A popular meeting place on Boragora is the Monkey Bar, which is Bon Chance Louis owned by the noble French magistrate. There nightly sings the pretty singer Sarah, who is actually an American spy. Jack, who lives above the bar in a small room knows, the only one of its true identity.

Broadcast

In the United States, the broadcast of the series began on 22 September 1982, ABC with the two -hour pilot movie Tales of the Gold Monkey. Regular broadcasting began one week later on September 29, 1982 and ended on April 8, 1983 after a total of 21 episodes. However, it was almost two months later on June 1, still showed the last episode. Since the ratings of the series, the high cost of production could not meet, the show was canceled after one season.

Only eight years after the U.S. broadcast of the German private broadcasters RTLplus the series took to the program. After the pilot episode was broadcast on 17 September 1990, broadcasting the remaining episodes from September 21 took place on Fridays. The transmitter, however, did not heed attention to the production sequence, so that eg was shown after the pilot first, the tenth episode, then the fourth episode, and then only the second regular episode. After a complete repetition September 1992 to January 1993, the series was not shown again on tv.

In 1983, the series an Emmy in the Outstanding Art Direction for a Series division. She was also in the same year for the Emmy for costume design ( Outstanding Costume Design for a Series), sound design ( movie Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series) and sound mix ( Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Movie Series) nominated.
