The Talfer (Italian Talvera ) is a river in South Tyrol ( Italy). It crosses the Sarntaler Alps from north to south.

Has its origins Talfer on the eastern slope of the Penser white horn. It flows through the Penser Valley, according to their union at Astfeld with the current flowing from the same side valley Durnholzer Bach the Sarn Valley, and finally crosses the Sarner canyon to empty into the Eisack after 45.5 km length at an altitude of 259 m in Bolzano.

With a catchment area of 429 km ² the Talfer is one of the largest tributaries of the Eisack. Important tributaries are next to the Durnholzer Bach Bach nor the dance and the Öttenbach.

Even more than the larger rivers Eisack and Adige is the Talfer the flow of Bolzano, the city is therefore also called " Talferstadt ". The name Talfer one of the oldest names in the area of Bolzano and is likely to mean so much as " debris, stream bed." The corridor designation Talfergries in the Bolzano district center is thus equally tautological, since Gries is due to OHG " sand, gravel ".

In Bolzano there are several street names that refer to the Talfer: Talfergasse, to Talfergries, Bolzano water wall, water wall and Grieser Quireiner water wall. Until the construction of the two continuous Talferdämme ( " water walls ") of Talfer were hit the Bolzano and Gries again and again by floods. The great flood of 1541 owes Bolzano -Gries the oldest recorded town view, made by the then Mayor Leonhard Hörtmair ( Hiertmair ).

Since the 1970s, caused by the regulation of Talferbetts in the Bolzano metropolitan area, a sprawling recreation zone and green lungs that today is with their sports facilities, walkways and lawns essential part of the urban leisure facilities.
