Talibon, Bohol

Talibon is a Philippine municipality in the northern part of Bohol Province on the island of the same name. It has 61 373 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ).

History

The municipality of Talibon was founded in 1830. Prior to this she was a part of Inabanga. About the further back in history no reliable historical records are available. According to oral tradition, the place got its name from the Talibong (see → Talibon (sword ) ), a stabbing weapon that was used in the area as well as a tool in the gold mining industry.

After initially was only a simple hut as a temporary church available, was started in 1852 with planning a proper stone church. Built in coral stone blocks building was erected on a hill overlooking the sea and completed in 1899.

Talibon is the seat of the Diocese of Talibon.
