Talisay, Cebu

Talisay City is a city in the province of Cebu on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. It has 200 772 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 22 barangays. It belongs to the third income class municipalities in the Philippines and is described as Urban. The name of Talisay is a derivation from the name of the tree Magtalisay; This only grows in the city of Talisay City.

Geography

The city is located opposite on the east coast of the island of Cebu on the road from Cebu, Bohol Island. The neighboring municipalities are Cebu City in the north, Toledo City in the west and in the south Minglanilla. The topography of the city is described except for a small stretch of coastline as mountainous.

History

The foundation of the city of Talisay goes back to the year 1648, when settled monks of the Augustinian order in the place. The status of a Municipality received Talisay in 1849. During the period of occupation by American and Japanese forces Talisay was an important port for supplying the occupation forces. During the Second World War Talisay was a center of resistance against the Japanese invaders. In the Battle of the Visayas, the American liberators arrived on March 26, 1945 on the beach of Talisay, whereupon the Japanese troops were.
