Talk of Angels

Talk of Angels is an American film drama from the year 1998. Directed by Nick Hamm, the screenplay by Ann Guedes and Frank McGuinness based on the novel Mary Lavelle by Kate O'Brien and the poem Down by the Salley Gardens by William Butler Yeats.

Action

Ireland's Mary Lavelle is afflicted in the 1930s to marry an Irish politician. To escape the pressure, she traveled to Spain. There she finds a position as governess in a wealthy family.

Lavelle falls in love with the married Francisco Areavaga, who is an opponent of General Franco. The Spanish Civil War breaks out.

Reviews

Diane Selkirk wrote in Apollo Movie Guide, Talk of Angels is a film about growing up of a young woman seeking her way before the age of feminism. He was also a " sensitive and sweet " love story. The film was well-played, with plenty of action and " fascinating characters ."

Awards

Francisco Rabal won the Spanish price Fotogramas Premios de la Plata in 2000.
