Tamae Watanabe

Tamae Watanabe (Japanese渡 辺 玉枝, Watanabe Tamae; * November 21, 1938 Yamanashi Prefecture) is a Japanese climber.

After graduating from the short-term Tsuru University, she worked as an employee in a local government of Kanagawa Prefecture. During this time she began climbing. In 1977, she climbed Mount McKinley. This was followed by the Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua.

After her pension, she returned to her home and climbed in May 2002 as at that time the oldest woman to climb Mount Everest. Ten years later, in May 2012, she created this world record for yourself by again, now defeated at the age of 73 years, Mount Everest. In 2004 she was awarded the " Uemura Naomi Bōkenshō " (植 村 直 己 冒 険 赏).
