Taman Negara

Taman Negara is a national park in Malaysia. The name Taman Negara is Malay and means " National Park".

With its 130 million years old tropical jungle of Taman Negara is home to the oldest forest in the world. Under the influence of ice ages, climatic fluctuations and changes in sea level, many parts of the world have changed, but on the Malay Peninsula, the ratios have remained relatively stable and the animal and plant life could evolve and survive without major disruptions.

History

Since 1938/39, the three states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu are the 4343 km ² large King George V National Park, the oldest in Malaysia. They issued largely similar laws, which turned the forest under protection. The Malay Peninsula, is located in the center of the park is home to very old and therefore particularly species-rich tropical forests.

Landscape and wildlife

The climate is tropical all year round, with high humidity. In the central region, the area of Bergen through it, on the edge of it is hilly. Numerous rivers originate in the mountain regions. With 2187 meters of Gunung Tahan is the highest. In the south, shallow estuaries in the brown colored Sungai Tembeling, the largest river system of the peninsula, the course also forms part of the border.

In the reserve many large animal species such as the Asian elephant, the leopard, wild boar, deer and monkeys occur. Among them are endangered animals like the Malaysian Tiger, the Malayan tapir and the Sumatran rhino. The Perlenpfau comes in the Malay peninsula almost exclusively in this national park. Over 600 bird species, 1,000 different butterflies were counted. Termites, spiders, beetles and other insects live in great diversity in the nature reserve.

Infrastructure

Orang Asli Except for a few settlements, the area is uninhabited. In Kuala Tahan is a First Class Tropics Hotel and small bungalows, mainly for backpackers. There the dark, humus -enriched Sungai Tahan empties into the Sungai Tembeling.

The composer Victor Lopez named a composition " Ghosts of the Taman Negara " ( Ghosts of the Taman Negara ).
