Tamborim

The tamborim is a small drum from the Brazilian Samba Percussion. It is not to be confused with the more common tambourine. Depending on the style of music, the notes on the tamborim with your fingers, light wooden sticks (sometimes ordinary percussion sticks) or with plastic whips are generated.

As a percussive accompaniment instrument in Choro, Pagode (music) and generally the MPB, the tamborim is used rather quiet. The pattern played mostly based on the rhythmic structure of the Partido Alto, but varies very free and comes with the accents and the melodic structure of the piece with. In part, several Tamborims be used with different mood, each playing a different pattern.

For the Samba Batucada often several Tamborims be played with plastic whips. This was a very striking, sharp tone is achieved. By " virado " called game art, a rotary movement of the left hand that holds the tamborim, it is possible to play very quickly. So passing 16th can also be played at the high pace of Samba Batucada. The sound of Tamborims " floats" above the music of the Batucada; they accentuate and structure the piece.
