Tamgaly

Tamgaly is a site with petroglyphs in the mountains Chu- Ili, 120 km northwest of the city of Almaty (Alma- Ata) in eastern Kazakhstan.

There where some 5,000 petroglyphs were discovered in a total of 48 groups belonging to the Middle and Late Bronze Age, former nomads epochs and the Turkish period. They date from the second half of the second millennium BC to the beginning of the 20th century. There are also a large number of ancient tombs, places of worship and probably altars.

In addition to depictions of people, to also " sun people ", it refers mainly to ( mythological ) drawings of animals (including horses, camels, wolves, deer, mountain goats and bulls ).

Since 2004 900 hectares of Tamgaly part of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO ( to 2900 hectare buffer zone).
