Tammela, Finland

Tammela [ tɑm ɛlɑ ː ] is a municipality in the Finnish region of Häme with 6542 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located in the countryside Kanta -Häme 8 km east of the city Forssa.

History

The first mention of Tammela is from 1423. Tammela describes himself as " Hakkapeliitta community " because of the Thirty Years' War were particularly many Finnish mercenaries from Tammela. The neighboring town of Forssa was originally a part of Tammela. As Forssa but was greatly increased by the industrial firms based there, it was dissolved in 1923 from Tammela and raised into an independent market town. In 1956, the municipality of Tammela enlarged again, as a part of the dissolved municipality Kalvola was incorporated.

Tammela is located on the Ox Road, the ancient trade route from Turku to malice. Today, the Army Road is a tourist route. The main attraction of Tammela is the medieval stone church, built in the mid 16th century and has been extended from 1781 to 1785. The parish village of Tammela is a culturally and historically valuable milieu, because it could keep its historical face quite well in spite of some new buildings.
