Tan Howe Liang

Tan Howe Liang (* May 23, 1933 ) is a former weightlifter from Singapore.

Career

Tan Howe Liang was the first weightlifter from Singapore, who pushed forward into the world top in weightlifting. He had started 20 years ago with the weight lifting and gradually improving. In 1957 he reached 330 kg lightweight ( to 67.5 kg of body weight) in the Olympic triathlon. His greatest achievement was winning the silver medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. In 1960, he achieved his best performance in a light weight of 390 kg. After ending his playing career, he was an outstanding coach who formed some athletes to his country 's leading weight lifters in East Asia. He received a number of national awards and an award from the IOC for its merits.
