Tan Zuoren

Tan Zuoren (Chinese谭 作人, Tan Zuoren Pinyin; born May 15, 1954 in Chengdu) is a Chinese author, environmental activist, civil rights activist and dissident. Because he complained structural defects in school buildings during the Sichuan earthquake in 2008 collapsed and so led thousands of students to death, he was arrested in March 2009 and sentenced in February 2010 to five years in prison. Previously, he had publicly donated blood to commemorate the victims of the Tiananmen Square massacre.
