Tanahbesar (also known as Wokam ) is one of the four main islands of the Aru Islands, an Indonesian archipelago about 150 kilometers south of New Guinea in the Pacific Arafura Sea.

Tanahbesar is separated only by narrow waterways of the islands Kola in the north and in the south Kobroor.

The about 1600 km ² large island counts geographically to the Moluccas, geopolitically, and Indonesian southern province of Maluku.
