Tanauan, Leyte

Tanauan is a Philippine municipality in the province of Leyte on Leyte Island. It has 50 119 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 54 barangays. The community is described as partly urban and belongs to the second class of income communities in the Philippines.

Your neighboring municipalities are Pastrana and Tabontabon in the west, in the north of Palo and Tolosa in the south. Tanauan is bordered to the east by the Gulf of Leyte. The community was named after the Tan- awan - tree (Latin: Vitex parviflora ) named, warned of the items in earlier times of approaching ships. The municipality is located in the coastal area of the propagating to the northwest Leyte Sab -a Basin, where a vast marshland located.
