Tancua

Tancua is a town in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté. The formerly independent village was incorporated into Morbier on 1 January 2007.

Geography

Tancua is located on 890 m, 4 km west of Morez and about 17 km northeast of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, a scenic location on a terrace on a sunny hillside about 250 m above the deep river of Bienne, south of the Forêt de la Joux Devant.

The area of ​​6.74 km ², former municipal area included a section of the French Jura. The southern border ran along the Bienne, which flows here in an erosion valley parallel to the Jura chain to the southwest. From the river, the municipality's area extended northward over the relatively steep slope of Tancua up on the adjoining plateau of the Forêt de la Joux Devant. This ridge, which forms an anticlinal folds of the Jura and shows a characteristic karst topography with above ground endorheic basins and dolines, is occupied by a large forest area. With 1110 m is reached on the summit of Les Aplanets the highest elevation of Tancua. The area of Tancua is part of the Regional Natural Park of Haut -Jura (French Parc naturel régional du Haut- Jura).

Neighboring communities of Tancua were Morbier in the north, Morez in the east, the south and La Mouille Lézat and Grande- Rivière in the West.

Population

With 151 inhabitants ( 2004) Tancua was one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 303 persons were still counted ), especially in the late 1970s was again recorded a population increase. Since then, the population is relatively constant.

Economy and infrastructure

Tancua was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Morbier La Rixouse.
