Tāne Mahuta

Tāne Mahuta is a Kauri tree in the family Araucariaceae. The tree is one with 51.2 m of the largest still living trees and is the largest known Kauri tree. Its circumference at ground level is 13.77 m, which corresponds to a diameter of about 4.4 m. The stem height from the ground to the crown base is 17.68 m, the root volume 244.5 m³. Only in 18 m height, the tree on branches.

The richly covered with epiphytes Tāne Mahuta located in the Waipoua Forest in Northland, New Zealand, and was only discovered in 1928 by Nicholas yakas in road construction work. The name of the tree comes from the language of the Māori and is named after the god of the forest Tāne. The age of the tree are not known.
