Tango Province

Tango (Japanese丹 后 国, Tango no kuni ) was an old province of Japan in the area of today's northern Kyoto Prefecture on the Japan Sea. Tango bordered by the provinces of Tajima, Tamba, and Wakasa.

History

The area was (竹 野 川 流域, Takeno -gawa ryūiki ) already inhabited during the Kofun period in Takenogawa River Basin. It is believed that there was an independent kingdom here.

In the 7th century, the province of Tamba was built. On the 3rd day of the 4th month 713 the northern part of the Kori Kasa, Yosa, Tamba, Takeno and Kumano as a tango was cleaved ( "Behind - Tamba "). Due to its remote, northern location, it is also called Okutan (奥丹) or Hokutan (北 丹).

The provincial capital ( Kokufu ) moved in ancient times and was alternately in the field of modern Maizuru and Miyazu.
