Tangwai movement

Dangwai or Tangwai (Chinese党外/党外, Pinyin Dǎngwài, outside the party ' ) is the name of a political movement in the Republic of China from the mid- 1970s to the early 1980s.

Although the Kuomintang a small number of seats in the Legislative Yuan occupied after 1947 through democratic elections, political parties were still banned. This was the trigger for the Dangwai movement, from which the first opposition party of the Republic of China, which called itself also Dangwai, emerged in 1986.
