Tannheim Mountains

The Tannheimer Mountains are a subgroup of the Allgäu Alps Bavarian- Tyrolean border area. It is named after the place Tannheim Tannheim valley in Tyrol.

Highest elevations in the mountains are Tannheimer Kellenspitze ( 2,238 m) and Gimpel ( 2.176 m), both of which are easily accessible from Nesselwängle in the Tannheimertal. More summits are the Mitre peak ( 2,163 m), Red Flueh ( 2,108 m), the Schartschrofen ( 1,968 m), the cutting tip ( 2,009 m) and the Kelleschrofen ( 2,091 m ) to the Tower of Babel. In the north of Tannheim the Einstein stands as a conspicuous, isolated dastehender summit.

Bases for touring the Tannheimer mountains are the Gimpelhaus (private), the Tannheimer Hut ( DAV), the Otto -Mayr - hut ( DAV) and Füssen's cabin (private). As points of the local Mountain Rescue and Mountain Rescue serve the local use in multi -purpose building Nesselwängle and Gimpelalm.
