Tanum Municipality

Tanum is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Bohuslän. The main town of the municipality is Tanumshede.

History

Prior to the merger of Älvsborgs County, Skaraborgs Göteborgs och Bohus Lan and Lan to Västra Götaland County Tanum belonged to the province Göteborgs och Bohus län.

Attractions

At six points in the community, there are rock carvings that have been declared as rock carvings of Tanum by UNESCO in 1994 as a World Heritage Site. The 3000 year old carvings and the large number of found objects from different periods suggest an early settlement.
