Taoyuan City

Taoyuan (Chinese桃园 市, pinyin Taoyuan Shì, W.-G. T'ao -yuan shih peach orchard ') is a city in the northern part of the Republic of China on Taiwan. It is located about 20 kilometers west of Taipei and is the capital of the district of Taoyuan.

On 25 December 2014, the city will be merged with the county, and raised to the centrally-administered city.

Economy

The metropolitan area in the northwest of the island of Taiwan is highly industrialized and densely populated. Taoyuan is one of the world's most important centers of the computer industry; many brand manufacturers and contract manufacturers maintain factories in Taoyuan.

Traffic

About 10 km north-west of the city center in the neighboring village Dayuan lies Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the main air hub in Taiwan. The highway 1 (Sun Yat -Sen Freeway) from Taipei to Kaohsiung touched Taoyuan, Highway 2 leads to the airport.
