Tappan Wentworth

Tappan Wentworth ( born February 24, 1802 in Dover, New Hampshire, † June 12, 1875 in Lowell, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tappan Wentworth attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent law degree in 1826 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession in York County, Maine. In 1833 he moved his office and his residence to Lowell. In his new home he hit as a member of the Whig Party launched a political career. From 1836 to 1841 he sat in the council of Lowell. Between 1848 and 1866 he was several times delegate in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts and a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1852 Wentworth was in the eighth election district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Horace Mann on March 4, 1853. Since he has not been confirmed in 1854, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1855. These were shaped by the events and discussions that preceded the Civil War. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Tappan Wentworth practiced in addition to his political activities in the state Legislature of Massachusetts again as a lawyer. He died on June 12, 1875 in Lowell.
