Taratha

Taratha was a goddess who was worshiped in Syria and Edessa.

A law book from the school of Bar Daisan ( Bardesanes ) from the early 3rd century reported that the men in honor of Taratha castrated what brings them to the vicinity of Atargatis. The custom to have been completed only by the first Christian king of Edessa, Abgar VIII, who was punishing the ritual castration by chopping off a hand.

According to Strabo (XVI, 4.27 ) Taratha is identical to Derketo.
