Tarbert (County Kerry)

Tarbert ( Irish: Tairbeart; over mutatis mutandis. " Portage" ) is a town in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland.

Tarbert is located in the far north of the county Kerry, on the southern bank of the estuary of the River Shannon. From a connected Tarbert by a land bridge island is possible by ferry ferry to the northern side of the Shannon to County Clare and thus avoid a detour of about 140 km above Limerick City. On this route Tarbert is the end point of the N67 national road that runs in their further course in County Clare, near the Atlantic coast towards Galway City. Also, is Tarbert, 19 km northeast of Listowel, on the N69 from Limerick City to Tralee.

The population of the town was established in the Census 2006, 809 people.

On Tarbert Iceland is a driven since 1834 lighthouse.
