Tarcento

Tarcento ( Tarcint on Friulian ) is a municipality with 9084 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Udine.

Geography

Tarcento is situated 230 meters above sea level, 20 km north of Udine. The town is dominated by an area rural character in different and contrasting shape: in the north of the Julian Alps, striking the horizon abrieglende lime fasteners; in the south the wide Friulian plain; to the east the eastern hills; to the west the morainic amphitheater of the Tagliamento, the hills formed after the last ice age.

History

The first documented attributions of Tarcento date from the 12th century, however, the city boasts much older origins: the scholars are really talking stone age populations, followed up by prehistoric settlements, then Celtic, and then of course the colonization of the Romans. Up to detect the first Attribution one must, however, to wait until the year 1126, as Tarcento domain of Machland who came from Perg ( Austria ) was. 1219 Mach country were replaced by the Kaporiakern. 1281 awarded the Patriarch of Aquileia Raimondo dalla Torre the fief to the noble Artico Castel Porpetto. Thus tarcento remained under the jurisdiction of the Castel of Porpetto until the time of Napoleon ( 1797). In 1866 the town was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy, and became the district capital. Parts of the town were destroyed by an earthquake on May 6, 1976, and constructed in subsequent years.

Villas

The small town on Torre was named the "pearl of Friuli " at the beginning of the twentieth century. A mild climate and the beautiful location favored the construction of many villas. The architect and his son Ruggero Berlam Arduino Berlam created with the Villa Moretti (about 1920) of one of its most beautiful buildings. Equally remarkable is the Villa Pontoni, whose oldest part ( " palazzat " ), the former main residence of the noble family Frangipane, dates back to the 16th century. Villa Angeli, later owned by the Frangipane and Prampero, interior decorations by Francesco Barazzutti (19th century); Villa de Rubeis, built in 1759; Villa Marcuzzi (1924 ), designed by Ermes Midena. Parish church of San Pietro

The parish church in the city center dates back to the Roman period, but it was rebuilt in the 15th century and later extended and modified.

1813 you bought the high altar of the church of Santa Maria della Cella in Cividale. This imposing, made ​​of marble art plant is equipped with beautiful statues from the 16th century. The altarpiece depicts the keys to Peter and was made by Odorico Politi. It is based on ancient models, run properly, even if a little theatrical in presentation. Decorations by Francesco Barazzutti decorate the choir. The ceiling in the nave is designed with frescoes of the Assumption by Giuseppe Ghedina from 1874.

Medieval castle

Located on the hill 410 m above sea level near the village Spizzot upper castle ( mid-14th century destroyed) was significantly older than the lower castle (14th- 16th century ) or the castle Frangipane ( 16-17. century). Today it no more remains of walls are practically available. Only from the lower castle is still the decaying castle keep present as a silent witness. The new Frangipane castle now acts as the town hall.
