The Tarentaise is one of the historical provinces of Savoy.

It consists of the valley of the Isère from the source at Val d'Isere to Albertville and the side valleys. The main valley is formed by the ice age and is bordered to the north by the masses of the beaufortain and the Mont Blanc and on the south by the crest of the Vanoise massif.

The capital of the Tarentaise Moutiers, whose Latin name was Darentasia. In antiquity, the Tarentaise was inhabited by the Ceutronen.

The Tarentaise has one of the highest densities of winter sports stations: in the upper Isère valley above Val d'Isere and Tignes at, on the south side of the central valley (Les Arcs, La Plagne ) and in the Vanoise massif located in the Trois Vallées ( Méribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens / Les Menuires ). In addition, there are agriculture (mainly dairy farming and breeding of Tarenteser beef), heavy industry, hydroelectric power stations and three spas.

Administratively corresponds to the Tarentaise the bulk of the French arrondissement Albertville. Formerly was the Tarentaise own district based in Moutiers, but this was abolished by law on 10 September 1926.
