Target rat

The target rat ( Stochomys longicaudatus ) is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ).

Target rats reach a body length 12-17 centimeters, the tail measures 18 to 25 inches and the weight is 45 to 105 grams. Their fur is long and rather rough, especially long hair at the top thanks to the animals and their names, as they remind stuck in the target arrows. Their fur is reddish brown on the upper side, gray on the flanks and whitish on the belly. The tail appears naked, but covered with fine hairs.

These rodents live in Africa, their range extends from Togo to western Uganda. Their habitat is mainly rain forests, sometimes they are also found in swamps and even on plantations. They are nocturnal and usually stay on the ground. Their diet consists primarily of fruits, in addition they also take green parts of plants and insects to him.

The target rat is widespread and, according IUCN not an endangered species. Systematically, it is expected within the Altweltmäuse to Hybomys group.
