Tarlac City

Tarlac City is the capital of the province of Tarlac and is located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It has 318 332 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ). The city is considered one of the most highly urbanized cities in the Philippines.

Geography

Tarlac City is located in the northern center of the great central plain of the island of Luzon. Your neighboring municipalities are Gerona to the north, Santa Ignacia, San Jose in the West, Capas, Concepcion in the south, La Paz, Victoria in the east.

The terrain is very flat, only 9 % of the total city area of ​​274.66 km ² have larger gradients of over 3%. Through the city flows the Tarlac River. The city is located about 125 km northwest of the Philippine capital Manila.

Languages

The mother tongue of the population is 44% Ilokano and Kapampangan 43.6 %. The other native speakers of Tagalog (12.4%), Pangasinan ( 10.6 %) and other regional dialects occurring.

Religion

History

The first settlement on the territory of the city was founded by Augustinian monks in 1686 and became an independent municipality in 1727. In 1788, the city of Tarlac Don Carlos Miguel and Don Narciso Castañeda was founded in 1973 and was the capital of the newly founded province of the same name.

During the Philippine- American War, Tarlac was the capital of the first Philippine Republic under General. Emilio Aguinaldo after the fall of Malolos City ( Bulacan ).

The City Tarlac received on 13 March 1998, with the entry into force of the Republic Act. 8593, awarded the title of a big city.
