Tarn-et-Garonne

The Tarn- et- Garonne [ taʀnegaʀɔn ] ( okzitan.: Tarn e Garona ) is a French department of order number 82 It is in the south of the country, in the Midi -Pyrenees and was named after the Tarn and Garonne rivers.

Geography

The Tarn- et- Garonne borders the departments of Lot, Aveyron, Tarn, Haute -Garonne, Gers and Lot- et- Garonne.

History

The Tarn- et- Garonne is not among the 83 " départements of the first hour ," which were created by the decree of 22 December 1789, the Constituent Assembly, but was formed only later during the First Empire. By decree of Napoleon of 21 November 1808 was part of the departments of Lot ( the villages of Montauban and Moissac ), Haute -Garonne (the place Castelsarrasin ), Lot- et- Garonne, Gers and Aveyron formed.
